What Will You Do to Remember 9/11?

Yon’s Greenpond Nursery will be closed in honor of Patriot’s Day, but we will be working.  We are going to be planting 10 trees and approximately 20 hydrangeas on the grounds of the nursery.  I bought the young saplings early in the summer at a sale for growers and have nursed them in the greenhouses until now.

So many of our customers comment that I need some trees and some shade where I work all day.  I don’t want too much shade because the plants need all the sun they can get when they are growing through the winter months, but during the summer, some shade would be nice.

I am especially excited about one particular tree we will be planting.  It is a Metasequoia, a type of redwood.  It hails a height of 70′-100′ and width of 25′-50′.  Needless to say, we have chosen a special spot for it to grow.  We look forward to years of watching it grow and remembering the heros and innocent civilians that lost their lives on that tragic day.  We will remember their lives and their sacrifices each time we look at the trees as well as our struggles and successes in the nursery as we watch them grow and add beauty to the grounds.  It is our hope they will do the same for you when you visit us. I’d love to hear of your plans to honor those victims and heroes of 9/11/01.

Happy Planting
